Tall Meadow-Rue

Scientific name

Thalictrum pubescens

Description

Tall meadow Rue is a perennial wildflower species that grows between 0.5 and 2 m tall. Leaves are compound, with light green leaflets that are oblong to round, and have 3 pointed lobes. Small, white flowers are arranged in clusters that are 30 cm long and bloom from June to August. Tall Meadow Rue forms dense clumps through it's rhizomatous root system, which is beneficial for stabilizing shorelines and preventing erosion.

Planting conditions

Tall meadow Rue prefers moist, well-drained soils that are rich in nutrients. Tall Meadow Rue will grow in sand, loam, and rich, humusy soils. It thrives in part shade, but will also grow in full shade or sun as long as soil remains moist. It can naturally be found growing along stream banks, lakeshores, floodplains, in wet meadows, marshes, swamps, and thickets.
