Description

Heart-leaved Aster is a perennial wildflower species that typically grows about 1 m in height. This plant may also be known by the common name Blue Wood Aster. The basal leaves are green, alternately arranged, heart shaped, and have sharply toothed margins. The flowers are showy, pale blue to light purple colored, have yellow centers, appear in dense rounded clusters, and bloom between August and September. The flowers are beneficial to pollinator species, including bees and butterflies.

Planting conditions

Heart-leaved Aster grows best in normal to moist conditions with full or partial sun exposure. It prefers well-drained, organically rich loam or sandy soil types. It is tolerant of shade but may produce fewer blooms. This wildflower can be naturally found in open forests, moist fields, and along partially shaded shorelines.
