Description

Foxglove Beardtongue is a perennial wildflower species that can grow over 1 m in height. The basal leaves are shiny, medium green, ovate shaped and have entire margins. They also have stem leaves that are lance shaped, oppositely arranged, and have slightly toothed margins. The flowers are showy, white to light pink colored, tubular with two lips and five lobes, appear on tall flowering stems, and bloom between April and June. The flowers are beneficial to pollinator species, like bees and hummingbirds. This plant can be easily grown from seed and matures quickly.

Planting conditions

Foxglove Beardtongue grows best in normal to dry conditions with full sun exposure. It prefers well-drained, loam soil types. It is tolerant to drought but young plants should be watered occasionally until established. It is also tolerant to deer grazing and clay soil. It is intolerant of wet or poorly drained soil. This wildflower can be naturally found in prairies, meadows, open forests, and sunny upland shorelines.
