Description

Star Flowered Solomon’s Seal is a perennial wildflower species that typically grows about 0.5 m tall. This plant may also be known by the common names: Starry False Lilly of the Valley or Starry Solomon’s Plume. The leaves are alternately arranged, about 15 cm long, have prominent veins, and the base of the leaf clasps the stem. The flowers are white, have six petals, six cream coloured stamens, appear in clusters at the top of the stems, and bloom between May and June. The flowers and fruit of this wildflower are beneficial for birds and bees. This plant spreads well by rhizomes and can fill in nearby empty areas. It is fairly hardy and can grow on difficult sites.

Planting conditions

Star Flowered Solomon’s Seal grows best in moist to normal conditions with full to partial sun exposure. It can grow well in a variety of soil types and in neutral to slightly acidic pH levels. It is tolerant of shade and can tolerate dry soil but young plants should be watered occasionally during hot summers. This wildflower can be naturally found in wet meadows, open forests, and along stream or lake shorelines.
