Description

White Wood Aster is a perennial wildflower species that can typically grow about 0.5 m in height. The basal leaves are green colored, heart shaped, have deeply toothed margins, and pointed tips. The flowers are small, abundant, white colored, have yellowish red centers, appear in flat-topped clusters, and bloom between August and October. The blooms are beneficial to pollinator species, like bees and butterflies. This wildflower species is classified as threatened in Ontario due to habitat loss.

Planting conditions

White Wood Aster grows best in normal to dry conditions with partial sun exposure or shade. It prefers well-drained loam or sandy soil. It is tolerant of heavy shade, drought, and dry rocky soil. This wildflower can be naturally found in dry forests or shaded upland shorelines.
