Description

Trailing Arbutus is an evergreen trailing shrub or groundcover species that grows about 10 cm tall. This plant may also be known by the common name Mayflower. The leaves are alternately arranged, shiny green, hairy, leathery, broadly oval shaped, have rounded tips, and have entire margins. The flowers are small, white coloured, have five petals, are trumpet shaped, and bloom in the early spring between March and May. The flowers are aromatic and produce white raspberry like berries. This plant is difficult to establish and grow because it is vulnerable to any disturbance.

Planting conditions

Trailing Arbutus grows best in normal to moist conditions with shade or partial sun exposure. It prefers well-drained, humus or sand soil types. It can tolerate acidity. This plant can be naturally found in moist forests or peaty clearings.
