Description

The Vine Maple is a short, fast growing deciduous tree species that can grow 3-5 m in height. The leaves are oppositely arranged, bright green colored, have serrated edges, have 7-9 lobes, and have attractive fall colors. The flowers are purplish white and the samaras are scarlet colored. This tree is beneficial to wildlife species, like birds and small mammals, for nesting and feeding. The roots can useful for controlling erosion and stabilizing shorelines. The Vine Maple is often used by gardeners as an ornamental tree or trained as a vine because of their beautiful colors.

Planting conditions

The Vine Maple can grow well in moist to dry conditions with full sun, partial sun, or shade. It can adapt to a range of soil types including loam, sand, clay, and rock. It is tolerant of shade, slightly acidic soil, steep slopes, and disturbed sites. It can tolerate drought and dry soil but young plants should be watered occasionally during hot summers. It can be naturally found in moist forests and near streams of the Pacific Northwest.
